Panama Embera Indian village 11Jan2010

The cruise ship stayed a night in Panama city.
Modern Panama city gave us a impressive scene like Hong-Kong.
We took tender boat to this little port and took a ship´s tour.
Visiting Panaman Indian ¨Embera¨ village.
Passengers getting on and off the tender boat.

Local buses

After 1.5 hours from the port, we arrived at this small village near Colon where the Panama canal begins.

Embera Indians driving our dug-out canoes with motor on Chagres river

Tourists on dug-out boat getting drenched with heavy tropical shower.

Our boat on Chagres river

Very tropical scenery on the both sides of the river

We had to go through some very shallow part of the river and we needed some assistance to lift the boats

After 45 minutes of boat riding, we finally arrived in this remote Indian village

This good-looking Indian man drove our dug-out boat

Few of young woman in the village greeting relatively big group of tourists

Welcome music playing from the band

Tattoes are common like this young boy.
It lasts about 3 weeks without having a shower as they get this black ink from the tree fruit called Jagua

Little girls are getting curious and excited about our visit

The river runs through the small village of 26 families

The village hall we gethered to see their traditional dances.
They also domonstrated skills to make their unique arts and crafts

Tourists looking around the stalls of souvenir and having rest inside the hall

In front of the village

One of the house with big kitchen where all the women are busy cooking fish and sweet potatoes for us

This is the biggest kitchen in whole village

Deep-fried fish and sweet potatoes are delicious in this cute bowl rolled with banana leaf

About half of tourists would not try the dish

Beautiful papaya as a desert

This pineapple is definately the one of the sweetest

Greg just can not get enough of these slices of pineapple

Their art works with naturally colored materials

Jagua tree and the fruit they use for tattoe ink

Whole families in the village lining up for group photo

Thank you for your hearty hospitality but it is time to say good-bye

Everyone wearing ponchos as it is raining heavily again

Teak trees.
Indians use the leaves to make red color for their art works

Some buildings and monuments on the way back to the port

She was world class and one of many fantastic performances on the cruise
